Sympathy && Empathy .

SYMPATHY :
a. an affinity, association, or relationship between persons or things wherein whatever affects one similarly affects the other
b. mutual or parallel susceptibility or a condition brought about by it
c. unity or harmony in action or effect sympathy with the scheme as a whole — Edwin Benson>

EMPATHY :
a. the imaginative projection of a subjective state into an object so that the object appears to be infused with it

b. he action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner.

To put in simple terms :
Sympathy is feeling FOR someone while empathy is feeling WITH someone .


Are you wondering why I posted this here ? Well , my seatmate forever [ Kuya Rendz ] told me that he is sympathetic with me . Then I told him my definition of sympathy && told him that he should be empathetic with me since he is also experiencing my situation right now . It`s just that I want to clarify the true meaning of sympathy && empathy. . XD
